Each time a prominent honors show nears, one notices a clamor to include of new categories to recognize underappreciated efforts and satisfy the passions of fans dedicated to specific genres.
Another commentator previously argued supporting a scary games classification. That would be fantastic. So would strategy board titles, representing a passionate advocate's mission. However, I must insist when I prioritize just as with other single-minded supporters, there's a strong justification backing this proposal stands as crucial and significant. Here's the proposal: There should be a classification for brain-teasing titles.
The Genre Classification Challenge
Categorizing art by genre isn't exact; it’s very subjective, and inevitably generate discussions and end in fuzzy definitions. There’s a reason cinema institutions don’t do it. But it is an essential concession for the industry of video games, which are so diverse they barely qualify as a single art form.
To recognize the complete range of gaming accomplishments to receive acknowledgment, and for games of all stripes to compete fairly, classification by type becomes crucial.
Existing Game Classification System
Prominent interactive entertainment events offer these classifications covering Action-oriented games, Action/Adventure, RPG experiences, Combat games, Simulation and strategy titles, and Sports/Racing games. Collectively, these classifications successfully include many game types, allowing placement for numerous titles.
This doesn't apply to brain-teasing titles. No suitable classification appears to put them. Think about these this year’s best games, all very different: building puzzles in a particular game, the pulse-pounding block-matching in a different title, and the sweetly sociological logic puzzles in another game. What category would fit them among existing types? Nowhere, that’s where.
Recognition Challenges
Numerous examples exist of brilliant puzzle games published annually without proper recognition at major award shows, except when they manage to fit for categories like Mobile Game, VR/AR Game, and the highly challenging Indie races.
- A renowned logic title got overlooked in any category in 2014
- A different innovative game received no nominations during that ceremony
- Popular arranging title got ignored in 2021
- Limited numbers of brain-teasers managed to sneak into independent or mobile categories
Significance of Puzzle Games
Frequently they represent small games, yet the craft in brain-teasers carries substantial weight. Famous handheld logic titles rank among most engaged experiences in the world maintaining this status for over a decade.
The legendary block-stacking game rivals popular creative games competing to become highest-selling title ever; it’s also in the running for top gaming experience. Logic titles represent cornerstones for gaming as medium, and engaging across multiple categories.
The Solution and Justification
Logic titles wouldn't face that issue. You could fill multiple candidates interesting, varied, worthy titles annually without trouble — perhaps, with difficulty, because you’d have to leave many worthy titles.
Restating the point, these include experiences that otherwise have no home during prominent ceremonies. Logic title developers function at the demanding boundary game development, creating some of the purest expressions within interactive entertainment. Similar to cinema stunt performers, they merit acknowledgment. Don't make them wait generations.
