From the very beginning of Campaign 4, recently appointed game master Brennan Lee Mulligan has maintained audience suspense with deep backstory, a colorful mix of characters, and a gripping narrative showcasing divine entities, evil spirits, and sinister influences growing in influence within Dol-Makjar.
Note: Key plot points for the latest installment of the new season are included.
The Soldiers Table Revealed
The latest chapter ended with a dramatic pause and presented the initial group of characters who will separate from the primary party to begin their separate journey, distinct from the other two tables.
The Soldiers table includes Teor (played by Travis), Thimble (Laura Bailey), the fierce warrior (Whitney Moore), Wicander Halovar (Sam Riegel), and the mysterious adventurer (Robbie).
Why Split the Party?
Considering a large ensemble, it was clear from the outset that having everyone at the same party would be impossible.
This explains, the first four episodes of this story serve as an Prelude, intertwining the personal journeys before splitting into three distinct groups: Warriors, Strategists, and Explorers.
What Defines the Soldiers Table
As described by Brennan Lee Mulligan, the Soldiers table is for participants who are drawn to a classically intense battle-oriented narrative style where diplomatic options are scarce.
Upon first impression, characters like the squeamish cleric Wicander Halovar might seem out of place, but the developments of the third episode show why these particular heroes are ideally matched for the combat party.
Why They Must Go
First, the team has a clear idea where to go next after a intense opening clash with The Crow Keepers.
A former ally of Thjazi—whose passing kicked off the narrative’s action—used the enemy for his personal gain, breaking into Thjazi’s hideout, assaulting Thimble, and taking all the magical artifacts to auction.
Casimir then paid off his debts and ran away to a Halovar stronghouse in the northern region, beyond the urban center, with Cyd hot on his heels.
Character Drivers
Secondly, each character has a personal reason to exit the metropolitan area:
- Thimble, as the close ally and trusted friend, wants retribution.
- Kattigan knows the northern area and warns that it is a nasty location.
- Tyranny and The healer, having resisted his relatives’ demands to eliminate the fighter and instead saved him, have no safe haven.
- Yet, their position as important members in the powerful family could help the group enter areas they normally couldn’t.
- Additionally, The grateful character vowed a unbreakable promise to Wicander for his salvation and will now accompany him anywhere.
Wanted and Hunted
Finally, all of them are sought by the rulers that govern the setting for a multiple motives, making remaining behind too risky:
- The agile adventurer and The character are recognized lawbreakers.
- Tyranny and The cleric turned against the powerful family and the legion of demons they are partnered with.
- Teor is wanted dead by House Halovar.
This means them no alternative but to travel to Timmony in pursuit of the antagonist.
